Note: This is where the MS Internet Explorer versus Netscape browsers can begin
to battle.
Hover Buttons, sometimes called Hoover Buttons for their ability to
"Hoover" a web site. You see there is some programming code at work to
create the special effects. In this case it's a Java Applet.
Creating
a hover button is easy. From the [Insert] menu, choose [Active Elements], then Hover
Button.
Dialog Box Options
Button Text - Type the text to appear on top of the button.
Font -Click this button to display the Font dialog box, where
you can specify the font characteristics for the button text.
Link To - To create a hyperlink from the hover button, type a
URL, or click Browse to select a hyperlink target in the Select Hover Button URL dialog
box.
Browse - Click this button to select a hyperlink target for the
hover button. This displays the Select Hover Button URL dialog box, where you can choose a
target from the current FrontPage web, from your local network, or from the World Wide
Web. When you click OK to close the Select Hover Button URL dialog box, the Link To box
displays the URL of the target to which you browsed.
Button Color - Select a color for the button. If you click
Custom and select an image to use as a button, you do not need to select a button color.
Effect - Select a visual effect that will display when a user hovers over the
button.
Width - Type the width of the button, in pixels. If you select
an image for the hover button using the Custom dialog box, the width you type here should
match the width of the image.
Background Color - Select a background color for the hover
button. The background color of a hover button cannot be made transparent; however, you
can match its background color to the page's background color.
Effect Color - Select a color for the effect selected in the
Effect box. The effect color will appear over the button color.
Height - Type the height of the button, in pixels. If you
select an image for the hover button using the Custom dialog box, the height you type here
should match the height of the image.
Custom - This displays the Custom dialog box. Want
the hover activity (mouse "hovering" over button) to display images or play
sounds? For example, check out this hover button.
Oh well, it's supposed to make noise. If anyone out there hears the sound,
let me know.
And one more hover button. This is
the neighborhood cat. Richard next door calls her Sasha, Ted calls her Nimrod
(mighty hunter) and I call her always hungry cat. Somehow she always knows when I'm
coming home and never fails to greet me and my luggage, no matter how late. Put you
mouse over the image. My motto ... all those fancy features must have another, more
fun use.
The secrets to using images is: 1) Make sure they are the exact same size.
2) Specify that size on the Hover Button dialog box ... width and height.
