To insert hyperlinks - Use the [Insert] menu, [Edit] menu or the hyperlink button on the standard toolbar.   To remove a hyperlink, select the hyperlink and use the [Edit] menu, [Unlink].

Relative or Absolute:

Relative Example:  active.htm

Absolute Example:  http://frontpage.sharonfrey.com/active.htm

Absolute hyperlink reference will take longer for the server to find and download.

 

A hyperlink is instructions to the Browser to:
bulletGo get another page from the server.
bulletMove to a specific spot (bookmark) in this page.
bulletGo to another URL on the big WWW.
bulletSend e-mail.
bulletAnd FrontPage adds one more ... create a new page for this particular hyperlink.

The most important consideration in creating hyperlinks is are they relative, located within the site, or absolute, outside of the site directory / folder.

Use the buttons on the dialog box for

1) Use browser to select page on the WWW
2) Link to a file on your computer
3) Make a link that sends email
4) Create a new page and link to new page.

Bookmark / Anchor

Look below the URL: text box in the Dialog Box above.  See Bookmark.  In html terms that is an anchor on the page.  You can create links to specific spots on a page.  The Back to Top at the bottom of this page is a bookmark / anchor.

Move your cursor to where you want the bookmark / anchor.  Bookmark is on the [Edit] menu.  Name the bookmark, save the page,  and the bookmark name will appear in the bookmark drop down menu.
