You might have noticed, meta commands are an html, hypertext markup language, thing. They go inside the <HEAD> </HEAD> commands. Nothing inside the <HEAD> commands is displayed by the browser. The meta data is mainly used for helping search engines with page descriptions and keyword matches. There are those who say the <META .....> should follow the <TITLE> command. FrontPage inserts them before the <TITLE> command. FrontPage makes in relatively easy to insert meta commands, once you know where to look. Meta commands follow.

Description       Offers a description of the page for search engines that use them.
Keywords This offers key words to the search engines that use them in their searches.
Author The author of the page, site, or ???
Generator Tells search engines what web authoring software was used to create page.
Copyright Hmmm?  Why would a search engine care about copyright information.
Expires Automatically expires document in search engine's database.
The actual html code looks like this:
<META NAME="author" CONTENT="Sharon Frey">

  FrontPage and Meta Commands
Step One:  Open the page properties dialog box, either from the [File] menu or a short cut menu.  Then, select the Custom tab.  Example follows.
meta1.gif (8230 bytes)
meta2.gif (2360 bytes) Next, choose add, type in the meta name in the Name: text box and the meta content in the Value: text box.

I like to include some standard meta commands in the template page I'll be using for a site.  Then I only have to edit those commands for specific pages.

That's all there is to it.  Unless of course you want to switch to HTML mode and move the meta commands from before the <TITLE> command to after the <TITLE> command.  Warning .... every time you edit Meta Commands FrontPage will move them back where it wanted them in the first place.
