Navigation View & Navigation Bars

FrontPage uses the Navigation Structure created in the Navigation View to create Navigation Bars.  Whew ... what a mouthful.

bulletBelow is an example of a navigation structure.  There are three sub pages under the Home Page and more sub pages under those.  When creating navigation bars, FrontPage will use the names on the boxes and also the structure.

bulletTo insert a navigation bar into your FrontPage web page.  In Editor, choose [Insert] [Navigation Bar]  and this is where it begins to get dicey.
bulletThe results of the choice you make below is totally dependent on the pages position in the navigation structure.
bulletFor example ... On the page called Explorer
bulletParent level will result in one link 'Home Page'
bulletSame level will result in three links 'Explorer' 'Editor' 'Other'
bulletChild level will result in two links 'Themes' 'Tasks'

bulletIf you want a complete list of all pages in alphabetical order you have one choice.  Create only one level under the 'Home Page' and create or drag & drop the page's box into alphabetical order.  See example below.
bulletNow, choosing a 'Same Level' with an Additional Home Page will result in a complete (links to all pages) navigation bar.

bulletOr, you can include more than one navigation bar on each page.  For example Insert one each of  'Top, Parent, Same and Child Level' navigation bars.
bulletSome Special Considerations Are:
bulletThe Parent Page under Additional Pages will result in a button or text link named 'Up' and not the name of the Parent Page.
bulletBack and Next will result in a link to the page to the left and the page to right as they appear in the Navigation View.  For example: a Back and Next Navigation Bar on the Bells Page above will result in a Back link to nothing and a Next link to Editor Page.
bulletOnly pages in the Navigation View will be included in the Navigation Bar.
bulletYOU MUST return to Explorer to manually add new pages created while in FrontPage Editor.  Just drag the file name to the Navigation View and drop into the appropriate position in the Navigation View.
bulletTo add a more descriptive 'Title' to your pages.  Go to Editor and edit Page Properties.  Use short cut menu (right click on PC) or choose Page Properties from the  [File] menu.  Editing the 'title' in Editor will preserve the 'title' in Explorer's Navigation view.
