Think of shared borders as:

Headers

bullet

Footers

Left_ers

bullet

Right_ers

for your Web Site.  Turn shared borders on for the entire web site in FP Explorer.  Then you can elect which shared border appears on a page by page basis.  Use shared borders for page elements you want on each and every page.

This site uses a shared top (header) border for hyperlinks to the main sections of the site and a bottom (footer) shared border for all that copyright jazz.   Go to the [Tools] menu for Shared Borders.

Warning, warning:  Now, I know, I know ... from the looks of the dialog box it appears that you can have different shared borders on different pages.  NOT TRUE.  All you are really accomplishing is:  show this shared border on this page.  Modify a shared border on any page in your site and you modify that header, footer, lefter, righter for the ENTIRE site.  I know, darn and maybe even dang it man!
